This week’s workouts: Strong Kids Campaign Edition (5/10-5/16)

The annual West Side Y Road Runners Club Run-A-Thon for Strong Kids is happening RIGHT NOW!

Contributions to the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign ensure that no child or family is turned away from life-enhancing YMCA programs because of the inability to pay. Each year, the West Side YMCA provides financial assistance to hundreds of local youth and families in need.

The YMCA exists to promote the healthy development of all kids and their families regardless of their financial means. Our Run-A-Thon goal this year is $10,000, contributing to the overall West Side YMCA goal of $445,000. Each dollar contributed to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign goes directly to making YMCA programs and membership available to those in need.

Monday 5/10/10:  Lower Loop Repeats + M.E.L.T. for Runners

Starting out at the 63rd street entrance into Central Park, we will run clockwise around the lower (1.7m) loop.  Run 3 repeats of the loop, starting out easy and increasing speed by about 10% each time around.  After the run we will proceed inside to the WSY lobby for M.E.L.T. for Runners – 7:30 PM in the Parkside Lounge.  This is a great class that utilizes foam rollers to stretch and loosen up muscles, with a focus on runners’ needs.

Tuesday 5/11/10:  Barefoot Training Workshop + “Train Like an Athlete”

Barefoot Training Workshop – West Side Y Main Gym, 5:30 PM.  Come see what the barefoot running craze is all about!  Followed by “Train Like an Athlete” with coach Robert Menefee – West Side Y Main Gym, 6:30 PM.  This class is not for the faint of heart, but will give you a good kick in the butt!

Wednesday 5/12/10:  6-mile or 4-mile loop + Blondies Night Out!

Run the 6-mile or 4-mile loop clockwise at regular training pace.  After the run, clean up and meet back in the WSY lobby to head over to BLONDIES NIGHT OUT – 212 W 79th St, 8:00 PM.  Come drink back all the calories you’ve burned – you earned it!

Thursday 5/13/10:  NIKETOWN Run Club – 6 E. 57th St, 6:30 PM

Friday 5/14/10:  Rest your legs for race day tomorrow!

Saturday 5/15/10:  Healthy Kidney 10K +WSYRRC Finish Line Fiesta!

Healthy Kidney 10K – Central Park, 9:00 AM.  (Our 3rd Team Points Race of the year!)  Meet in the WSY Lobby at 8:15 AM.  After the race there will be our first-ever Finish Line Fiesta in the West Side Y Lobby, starting at 10:00 AM.  Treat yourself to some postrace refreshments, homemade energy bars, and a free massage!
