This Week’s Workouts: 5/30-6/5

Memorial Day, Monday 5/30/11:  Easy Run

Don’t feel guilty about your Memorial Day BBQ!  As a group, run the Bridle Path 5-mile loop at conversational pace.  The Y closes at 8PM on Memorial Day, so everyone should be back in time to get their stuff and have a quick shower if you want.

National Running Day, Wednesday 6/1/11:  Shot Blocks Relay!

In honor of National Running Day (and for those who need practice taking food during a marathon), WSYRRC will be holding the first annual “Shot Blocks Relay” around the Heckscher Ballfield Loop in Central Park.  The name gives it away:  Sprint a loop, eat some blocks, cheer on your teammates, rest, and repeat!  This will be a fun run so I encourage you to bring friends and newbies to help us celebrate National Running Day.  If you don’t run on National Running Day, then what type of runner are you?!  This year’s block flavor is TROPICAL PUNCH (it’s very good)… Afterwards we’ll wash it all down at Jake’s Dilemma on Amsterdam between 80th and 81st.

Also at Wednesday’s run we will be handing out new uniforms.  If you ordered a uniform, please come before the run to the run to collect, and wear your uniform to show your WSYRRC pride on NRD!  Other teams will be doing the same, so there may be a showdown.

“What distinguishes those of us at the starting line from those of us on the couch is that we learn through running to take what the days gives us, what our body will allow us, and what our will can tolerate.” – John Bingham
